This is perhaps one of the quirkiest phases to emerge from the ’70s—and to die with it, too. The Pet Rock…One brilliant advertising executive came up with a plan to sell the American public rocks. And it worked! The Pet Rock was merely a smooth stone packaged to look like a bonafide “pet.” The best part about this trend is that people really got into it, naming, decorating, and even “training” their pet rocks.
