#17: Charles Lindbergh’s Medical Collaboration
Charles Lindbergh’s transatlantic flight brought him worldwide fame, but his later work in medicine is less recognized. He collaborated with surgeon Alexis Carrel to develop an early form of a perfusion pump, a precursor to the artificial heart. This device allowed organs to be kept alive outside the body for study. His technical curiosity extended into life-saving innovation.
