#2: Bannerman Castle on Pollepel Island, United States
Bannerman Castle stands on Pollepel Island in New York’s Hudson River. Scottish immigrant Francis Bannerman VI built the structure in the early 1900s to store military surplus equipment and ammunition. An explosion damaged the complex in 1920, and later fires caused further destruction. The abandoned castle remains partially standing and attracts boat tours today.
