#8: The Abandoned Greek Village of Kayakoy, Turkey
Kayakoy, near Fethiye in Turkey, was once a busy community where Greeks and Turks lived side by side during the late Ottoman period. After World War I and the 1923 population exchange between Greece and Turkey, residents were forced to leave. Earthquakes later damaged the village, leaving hundreds of empty stone homes behind.
