#6: Runza Sandwich – Runza (Nebraska)
The Runza Sandwich is a pastry filled with beef, onions, and cabbage; it’s a Midwest melt-in-your-mouth meal that’s especially popular in Nebraska (but available in nearby states as well). It’s believed to be based on Eastern European dishes, including those enjoyed by German and Russian immigrants, and a source of regional pride since the 1940s.
