#14: Royston Vasey — The League of Gentlemen (TV series, 1999–2002)
Mark Gatiss, Steve Pemberton, Reece Shearsmith, and Jeremy Dyson set their comedy horror series in a northern English market town whose welcome sign informs visitors that it is a local town for local people. The shops supply products that imply needs the viewer prefers not to examine too carefully. The residents are hostile to outsiders with an intensity that functions less as eccentricity and more as a genuine civic policy. The recurring question of what exactly the local butcher puts in his special stuff remains unanswered.
