#10: Lemuria
Lemuria began as a scientific guess, not a mystical theme park. In the 19th century, some zoologists proposed a sunken land bridge to explain lemur distribution between Madagascar and India. Later occult writers grabbed the idea and added ancient races, spiritual evolution, and the usual fog machine. Modern plate tectonics made the original land-bridge theory obsolete. The lemurs were real. The lost continent got promoted beyond its qualifications.
