#17: Aztlán
Aztlán is the legendary ancestral homeland of the Mexica, later known as the Aztecs. Codices and traditions describe it as a place of origin, often imagined as an island or watery homeland to the north. Scholars have proposed various locations, but none has been definitively identified. Aztlán may be a memory, myth, migration story, political origin tale, or all of the above. Not every homeland leaves a forwarding address.
