#2: The Best Little Wh*rehouse in Texas (1982)
Dolly played Mona Stangley, the warmhearted proprietor of a long-established Texas brothel threatened by a crusading television personality. Burt Reynolds supplied the romantic sparring, while Parton supplied songs, glamour, and enough charisma to make an enormous musical feel surprisingly intimate. The film also gave her another chance to perform “I Will Always Love You.” It was big, colorful, unapologetically theatrical entertainment, exactly the sort of surroundings where Dolly somehow manages to look completely at home.
