#3: Rhinestone (1984)
Only the 1980s could confidently pair Dolly Parton with Sylvester Stallone and decide he should become a country singer. In Rhinestone, Dolly plays Jake Farris, a performer who bets she can transform Stallone’s thoroughly unpolished cabbie into a believable country act. Critics were not particularly kind, but the odd-couple premise has aged into glorious curiosity. Dolly performs multiple songs and commits completely. Stallone singing country, meanwhile, remains something cinema bravely chose to preserve.
