No matter what the cause, molasses should not be stored in the refrigerator. Keeping molasses in the refrigerator causes the liquid to become solid, making it impossible to use. This is due to the fact that molasses is already an extremely viscous liquid. Refrigeration could make its usage pretty difficult.
Find it a new place to call home. Molasses should be kept away from heat and light, and in an airtight container to prevent spoilage. Molasses that has not been opened can be kept for up to a year. After it is opened, its life expectancy is decreased to six months at the most.
