#22: Pineapple & Ham Everything
After Hawaii became the 50th state in 1959, Americans clamored to appropriate the Hawaiian culture. The pineapple and ham combination, so we were told, was a quintessential Hawaiian flavor blend. That was all it took for people to add pineapple rings to their baked ham, toss chunks of pineapple in their ham salad sandwiches, and order their pizzas with ham and pineapple toppings.
