Hostesses with the most-ess served Vienna sausages as an appetizer at dinner parties because they seemed very exotic and European, which translated to ‘classy and sophisticated.’ These tiny hot dog-wannabes were loaded with sodium and other dubious ingredients that no amount of Dijon mustard dipping sauce could mask.
