#9: Canned Sardines

When you wanted to be bougier than canned tuna, you went with canned sardines. Some folks claimed the aroma of canned sardines made them think of Italy, but others were not so convinced. Canned sardines were portable and did not require refrigeration, so amorous fellows added them to picnic baskets, along with wine and fruit, when courting their lady friends.
