Disney seems to have written the book on innovation and going above and beyond to give their guests the most magical experience possible. But constantly reinventing its attractions has some downsides to it. Some of our most beloved characters have quietly faded into the scenery, making an in-park sighting next to impossible. Before the days of fancy, aerated costumes and picky handlers, we’ve rounded ten characters you once could have spotted walking around a Disney park, way before Fast Passes were a must-have and character lines wrapped around the building.
#1: The Orange Bird (Adventureland’s Lost Mascot)
Before Dole Whip reached the cult status it now enjoys as a Disney World must-have snack, Florida’s own Orange Bird was the face of Adventureland. Originally dreamed up as a mascot for the Florida Citrus Commission, this non-talking, big-headed bird greeted guests outside the Enchanted Tiki Room. Though he disappeared in the ’80s, he’s had a minor comeback in merchandising, but we wouldn’t expect to see this little guy walking the parks any longer.
