#4: Shaun Cassidy – “Hey Deanie”
In addition to being a big American hit, “Hey Deanie” made it high in the charts in Canada and Australia. The singer of this popular version was Shaun Cassidy. Although its songwriter, Eric Carmen, released his own version, this ended up on the B side of his album.
Carmen took his inspiration for “Hey Deanie” from the 1961 film Splendor in the Grass. In fact, the movie also inspired him to write another song — called “Splendor in the Grass,” like the movie. However, this didn’t become nearly as much of a hit.
