#9: Creedence Clearwater Revival – “Who’ll Stop the Rain”
Have you ever noticed that you hear Creedence Clearwater Revival music everywhere? That’s because songwriter John Fogerty gave away legal control to the band’s record label. You’re probably most familiar with their hit song “Have You Ever Seen the Rain?,” not to be confused with “Who’ll Stop the Rain,” which appeared in a movie of the same name (the producers changed its original name to match the song) as well as in a few other movies.
John Fogerty seems to have had some regrets about his decision to give away the songs. He felt that using “Who’ll Stop the Rain” in a commercial for paint thinner was a particularly egregious misuse of his music, and he’s probably right.
