#2: “Tainted Love” by Soft Cell (1981)
Everyone knows this synth-pop classic, “Tainted Love” by Soft Cell! In fact, it’s oftentimes nearly impossible to get out of our heads. For this and other reasons, “Tainted Love” became a defining single of the early 1980s with its signature dark and brooding beats. Even though Soft Cell remained influential in the underground scene, “Tainted Love” is their only mainstream success.
