Where’s a Merchant Copy?
The merchant copy of a receipt is a copy that the company holds onto for recording purposes. At the end of the day, the cashier can tally how much the restaurant made that day in sales, services, and tips. That way, the employees would know how much to receive in tips at the end of their shifts.
But if the merchant copy was missing, then someone was trying to pull the blinds over Whitney and the company’s eyes. If the restaurant couldn’t produce the merchant copy, then the only reasonable conclusion was that someone was trying to hide the evidence of a misdeed.
