#1: Compact Disc (1982)
The compact disc (CD) changed the way music was shared and experienced, forever. More portable than a vinyl record with much better sound quality than a cassette tape, the CD quickly became the preferred format for audiophiles everywhere. With its crisp sound and lightweight structure, the CD paved the way for the digital music era that would soon render it obsolete.
