Expulsion Over Controversial Photo.
The Courier-Journal reported that Dr. Jacobson would not confirm whether Kayla’s expulsion was a direct result of the photo. However, according to the family’s lawsuit, Whitefield Academy stated the photograph was “the last straw.” In an expulsion letter included in the complaint, Jacobson made reference to the picture.
Additionally, suspicions arose that the school had singled out the teenager for her “presumed sexuality.” Prior to her expulsion, Kimberly mentioned that her daughter and the counselor had been meeting once a week to discuss the book Gay Girl, Good God, adding to the suspicion that the school’s actions were motivated by assumptions about the young girl’s sexual orientation.
