Great books you can’t read because they are lost

Hortensius was a philosophical dialogue written by the Roman statesman Cicero in 45 BCE. The work inspired many readers, including Saint Augustine, who credited it with awakening his interest in philosophy. Despite its influence, the text disappeared during the Middle Ages. Only scattered quotations survive, leaving historians with an incomplete picture.
