#18: I Am Curious (Yellow) (1967)
This Swedish film was so controversial it was banned by the U.S. government. A young woman investigates social ills like war, racism, and poverty. Along the way, she also explores her own desires. The film’s frankness was shocking for 1967, but the government was likely more irritated by its anti-Vietnam War message than by the nudity. The ban created so much publicity it became a huge box office hit.
