#5: Jules and Jim (1962)
Two friends, one French and one Austrian, form an incredibly tight bond before, during, and after World War I. Their friendship is tested when a woman named Catherine enters their lives. She first marries one man, then leaves him for the other. For the Legion of Decency, that was the entire problem. In their view, marriage was a permanent contract. People couldn’t just switch partners midstream without society falling apart.
