#19: Macbeth (2015)
Justin Kurzel’s Macbeth, starring Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard, is muddy, bloody, grief-stricken, and visually stunning. This version makes ambition feel rooted in trauma and war damage, not just n*ked hunger for power. Fassbender’s Macbeth looks haunted before the crown even arrives, while Cotillard’s Lady Macbeth is quieter and sadder than expected. The Scottish landscapes are brutal and beautiful. Everyone seems cold, doomed, and one prophecy away from collapse.
