#13: The Berkeley Pit (Montana)
Once a copper mine, now a giant lake filled with water that’s the color of a bright cocktail. For years, this was an open-pit mine that supplied copper and prosperity to the city of Butte. Groundwater started filling the huge excavation when the pumps finally turned off in 1982. Heavy metals and minerals were left in the rock.
