#11: Thurgood Marshall (July 2, 1908 – January 24, 1993)
Thurgood Marshall spent his early career traveling the American South as a lawyer for the NAACP. Thurgood Marshall won 29 out of 32 cases before the nation’s highest court, including Brown v. Board of Education in 1954. That specific ruling ended legal segregation in public schools. President Lyndon B. Johnson nominated Thurgood Marshall to the Supreme Court in 1967. He spent 24 years on the bench protecting civil rights for every citizen.
