#8: Antoine de Saint-Exupéry (June 29, 1900 – July 31, 1944)
Antoine de Saint-Exupéry was a French count that flew open-cockpit planes to deliver mail across the Sahara Desert during the 1920s. Antoine de Saint-Exupéry moved to New York after his country fell in World War II, where he wrote and drew the pictures for The Little Prince in 1943. The poetic story about a stranded pilot sold over 140 million copies worldwide. Antoine de Saint-Exupéry disappeared over the Mediterranean Sea during a military reconnaissance flight in July 1944.
