Historical hermits who said “No” to society

Willard Kitchener MacDonald rejected military service during World War II and disappeared into Nova Scotia’s wilderness. He spent nearly sixty years living alone among forests and lakes. Local officials eventually built him a replacement cabin after a fire, but he preferred the woods and returned there.
