#8: Despina Achladioti and the Island of Ro
During the turmoil surrounding World War II, Despina Achladioti moved with her family to the small Greek island of Ro. After her relatives died, she remained there alone for four decades. Known as the Lady of Ro, she raised the Greek flag daily until her death.
