#18: John Brown (1800-1859)
John Brown was an American abolitionist who became involved in anti-slavery actions during the 1850s. He participated in violent confrontations in Kansas and later planned a raid on Harpers Ferry in 1859, aiming to spark wider resistance against slavery. The raid failed, and he was captured, tried, and executed later that year in Virginia. His actions divided public opinion at the time and remain a major point of study in pre-Civil War history.
