#4: Michael Oher Said the Movie Created a False Story About His Intelligence — The Blind Side (2009)
The Blind Side became an enormous commercial success and earned Sandra Bullock an Academy Award, but Michael Oher has repeatedly challenged the way the movie presented his life. The former NFL player particularly objected to being portrayed as academically and intellectually limited, arguing that the characterization followed him throughout his professional career. Oher has said the film damaged how people perceived his intelligence and football ability by suggesting he needed to be taught basic elements of a sport he already understood. Years later, the dispute became even more complicated when Oher filed a legal petition concerning the conservatorship established by Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy, challenging another central element of the familiar story. Whatever audiences thought they knew about Oher from the movie therefore became increasingly contested.
