#10: The Roy Williams Rule and Horse-Collar Tackles
The danger appears after the catch. A runner is accelerating away when a defender grabs the inside rear of his shoulder pads and yanks downward, often trapping the runner’s legs beneath his own falling weight. Dallas Cowboys safety Roy Williams became closely associated with that technique, and during the 2004 NFL season several serious injuries made the league reconsider whether it belonged in the game. Philadelphia star Terrell Owens (T.O.) was among the most famous victims, suffering a significant ankle injury late that year on a tackle by Williams.
