#14: The Darryl Dawkins Rule and Breakaway Rims
First came the glass. Darryl Dawkins shattered a backboard in Kansas City in November 1979, then did it again a few weeks later in Philadelphia. Games stopped while workers cleared debris and replaced damaged equipment, and anyone standing beneath the basket suddenly had reasons to watch the backboard as closely as the ball. Dawkins, never lacking personality, gave elaborate names to his dunks and carried the nickname Chocolate Thunder, reportedly bestowed on him by Stevie Wonder.
