#9: The Trent Tucker Rule and Minimum Shot Time
There were 0.1 seconds on the Madison Square Garden clock. Somehow, that was enough for Mark Jackson to inbound the ball, Trent Tucker to catch it, turn, release a three-pointer, and beat the Chicago Bulls 109-106 on January 15, 1990. The basket counted. Chicago coach Phil Jackson was understandably unconvinced that everything he had just watched could physically happen in one tenth of a second, but the NBA denied the Bulls’ protest and allowed the result to stand. It changed the rule instead.
