#13: Robert Smith (The Cure)
We were there when the alternative rock scene exploded in 1987 with classic tracks like “Just Like Heaven.” The Cure frontman Robert Smith suddenly was in a position that was never his plan. He hated the clean image of typical pop stars of the time. Smith used his signature wild hair, heavy pale makeup, and red lipstick as a physical shield against the cameras. This look helped him mock the traditional standard while protecting his true self from the media.
