British teen magazines voted David Sylvian the most beautiful man in the world. He wore heavy makeup and stylish clothes, but he hated the superficial nature of pop stardom. At the very peak of his band’s success in 1982, he walked away. He washed off the makeup, changed his style, and started recording experimental jazz music.
