The Irwins and the Iguana, 1992
This was a crazy marriage. Steve Irwin and Terri Irwin, best known for their conservation efforts and work with wildlife, were the ideal couple for the job. Terri, 27, came from the United States to volunteer at the Queensland Wildlife Park in Australia, which Steve and his father had been running for years, and they had the ultimate “meet-cute,” that first meeting of people who are destined to fall in love.
Their shared passion for animals brought them together, and their marriage in 1992 saw the birth of the Australia Zoo. It covers an area of 1500 acres and employs a workforce of 600! Before his untimely death in 2006 due to an allergic reaction caused by a Stingray’s barb while filming a documentary, Steve and Terri had been inseparable, raising two children together and running the Australia Zoo.
