Portraits of Dogs From The Nineteenth Century
A century ago, people were just as obsessed with their pets as they are today, and it’s comforting to know this. When a dog is loved so much that it’s given a prop to pose with, it’s clear that its owner had to have an early picture of them. Animals were often sedated in the early days of pet photography.
Because they couldn’t stand still long enough to pose for the camera, this shows that people were still ready to do anything just to be in trend. In 1816, when the first camera was invented, there was a strong desire to capture images of pets. An early 1850s photograph entitled “Poodle with Bow, on Table” is the first photograph of a dog.
