#7: Lawrence of Arabia (1962)
This epic biographical adventure drama follows the real-life adventures of writer, T.E. Lawrence, based on his 1926 book, Seven Pillars of Wisdom. It’s quite an experience to enjoy this film today, as the original Intermission (much like many other films from the era. See: The Sound of Music at #11) has been preserved for narrative and historical accuracy. Film going in the 1960s was still a grand affair, with decadent and formal movie theaters, ushers, and lush soundtracks that swept you up into an entirely different time and place. If you haven’t seen it, Lawrence of Arabia is a sweeping masterpiece, not to be missed.
