#7: International Vacations
International travel occupies an unusual place in generational comparisons because flying abroad has become more accessible in some respects while the broader vacation can remain prohibitively expensive. Low-cost airlines, online booking platforms, translation apps, digital maps, and abundant travel information have removed obstacles that made foreign travel intimidating or logistically difficult for earlier generations. Yet airfare is only the beginning. Hotels, restaurants, local transportation, attractions, travel insurance, exchange rates, and the ability to take sufficient time away from work can turn an overseas vacation into a major financial undertaking. Social media has simultaneously made international travel appear almost routine, filling feeds with images from Tokyo, Paris, Rome, and tropical resorts. That visibility can obscure how much money and flexibility frequent travelers actually possess. Older generations might remember an overseas trip as a rare once-in-a-lifetime event, while younger people can feel cultural pressure to treat it as a regular lifestyle experience.
