The Reading Area of the First Class Passengers
After dinner, the reading room was designed to be a place where ladies could “retreat.” The men would congregate in the lounge and discuss manly topics. Pink curtains were used to give this space a more feminine feel.
This room, on the other hand, was rarely used. A new era had arrived, and women preferred to participate in all of the “manly” discussion. The ship’s designer realized that the room wasn’t getting much use, so he didn’t include one in his next vessel’s design.
