Trust Me, I’m Jewish
This is a really old one, from quite a few years back, and it sparked some controversy back then. This blue and white sign, found on a bench near the Broward County Courthouse in South Florida, exclaimed “Prefer a Jewish lawyer!”. This reminds me of Jimmy McGill from “Better Call Saul” who pretended to be Jewish to attract customers. Anyway, the number lead to the Jewish American Bar Association, a Jewish lawyer referral based in Boca Raton.
It obviously didn’t take long for people to complain about this ad, claiming that it’s stereotypical, and it was removed. Sure, implying that Jewish lawyers are better plays on a certain stereotype of Jews. But can’t one jokingly use stereotypes in advertising? It was obviously a joke… I think… Wait, wasn’t it?
