How Do Paternity Tests Work?
Paternity tests determine once and for all whether a father shares the same genes with another person. To conduct this test, two people submit samples of loose cells on their inner cheeks to specialists to review them. The test takes about two weeks to complete, so anyone waiting for the results will have to find something else to do in the meantime.
The cells collected by the scientists are then compared by genome sequencing. If there’s a match, then there’s no denying that the two people are related. Conversely, if there’s no genetic match between the samples, then both parties know for certain that they are not father and child.
