#2: The Bolsheviks Did Not Begin With a One-Party Dictatorship
The idea that the October Revolution was designed from the beginning to create a single-party state ignores the role of the soviets, councils of elected workers and soldiers. In 1917, these bodies included different political groups. The Bolsheviks gained influence through elections within the soviets before later restricting opposition during the Civil War.
