A Normal Schedule for Physical Activity
Because of the limited amount of space available, there is very little room, if any, onboard a submarine for workout equipment. However, this does not absolve submariners of the responsibility of maintaining a healthy weight for themselves. It was the perfect circumstance when submariners were able to gain weight while on extended underground journeys and then shed all of that weight when they returned to the surface between such trips.
Maintaining a high degree of physical fitness is an absolute requirement for submariners at all times. In order to keep themselves in peak physical condition, sailors will utilise any and all means available to them. As a direct consequence of this, it is acceptable to perform push-ups in the space between the torpedo tubes.
