#5: Thurl Ravenscroft – Tony the Tiger
If you’ve watched the recent Netflix film Unfrosted starring Jerry Seinfeld and Melissa McCarthy, you may have a vague sense of who Thurl Ravenscroft is. But if you haven’t, Thurl was the man behind one of the most iconic advertising mascots in history: Frosted Flake’s Tony the Tiger. We’re all familiar with Tony the Tiger and his catchphrase, “They’re grrrrreat!”
But that isn’t all he did. Ravenscroft was also a regular voice in many Disney films and attractions. Disney fans will recognize him as the singing voice of the Grinch in How the Grinch Stole Christmas, belting out You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch in the 1966 animated special. Nevertheless, it is Tony the Tiger that remains Ravenscroft’s biggest legacy.
