#17: Boryeong Mud Festival – South Korea
What began as a regional promotion in 1998 evolved into the Boryeong Mud Festival, which celebrates the area’s mud flats and promotes their use for skincare and medicinal purposes. Mud-based treatments had been sold locally since the 1980s, but the festival brought them, and a whole lot of messy fun, into the spotlight. Held every July, it now follows a fixed summer schedule, drawing crowds for games, mud baths, and activities that showcase the region’s unique natural resources in a tourist-friendly way.
