#13: Lost in Translation (2003)
Sofia Coppola made this dreamy Tokyo-set story for just $4 million. With gorgeous cinematography, Bill Murray doing subtle magic, and a quietly aching script, it certainly struck a chord. It didn’t scream “blockbuster,” but it became a beloved indie success and Oscar winner.
