#7: Leonardo DiCaprio — Patrick Bateman
Long before Christian Bale terrified audiences in American Psycho (2000), Leonardo DiCaprio was attached to play the lead, Patrick Bateman. The studio wanted a big star, and DiCaprio’s name was on everyone’s lips after Titanic (1997). However, the film’s original director, Mary Harron, insisted Christian Bale was the only man for the job. When the studio pushed for DiCaprio, Harron walked. DiCaprio eventually dropped out over creative differences, Harron returned, and she cast Bale, creating the chilling performance we remember today.
